VOICE OF

ELEMENTARY

MONTESSORIANS:

We look up to a whole new day
when we enter Western Ghats
Experimenting, exploring and discovering
with bated breaths and thumping hearts

Our reasoning mind like hungry caterpillars
We soak up knowledge through and through
Montessori materials to challenge our mind
And countless opportunities to grow and shine

At elementary environment
we love to work at our own pace
Be independent or be a team
there is no pressure to win the race

A puzzle here and a riddle there
our smart teachers set the scene
They stay nearby and help us think
with all focus and interest keen

A harmonious tone, where grace & courtesy are seen We help, we share, we learn, we explore, we grow And spread our wings to fly independently & confidently like unique colourful butterflies
A happiest community where independence abounds We love Montessori! and we love Western Ghats!!
“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and
is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment”
– Dr.Maria Montessori

The developmental stage of this age group of children is similar to that of the Chrysalis stage of butterfly. The Reasoning Mind of this age group of children is like a hungry caterpillar with a great quest for information about the whole universe. Children at this stage love to be group oriented and question frequently on ‘WHY’ and imagine a lot.

The environment (Classroom) is full of educational materials and reference textbooks. Children learn to solve problems and think, instead of repeating memorized texts. Teachers are guides, not lecturers. They individualize instruction to keep each child optimally challenged. Instead of competing with each other, they grow into a community, and practice all-important social skills every day.

Mathematics

A systematic progression from material to pictorial representations to abstractions and formulae is methodically formulated in this six years of rigorous elementary program.

Language Arts

Due importance is given to Writing and Reading. Language arts program has components like mechanics, applied writing, word study, vocabulary development & spelling, grammatical analysis, logical analysis, expansion of oral language, elementary poems & songs and Theatre arts.

Science

Our life science curriculum consists of botany, zoology, physics and chemistry. Students actively apply what they learn: they work with classification cards; they conduct experiments; they observe demonstration, answer questions and summarize their observations.

Geography

Earth and Physical Science, Political Geography, Physical Geography, Sun and the Earth, Geology and Functional Geography, a solid grasp of Physical Geography. Students understand a broad base of knowledge about different cultures and places.

History

Children study history in its logical sequence, progressing from prehistory through ancient history towards the present. This sequence is taught as an exciting story, with a focus on the broad arc of history and essential events.

Going Out (Field Trips)

Children are guided to go outside and observe nature and to have close contact with nature. They may find constellations in the night sky, observe birds and ants in the school yard or collect plant specimen on field trips.
